Cancer is often defined as a rapid, uncontrolled growth of cells. The growth of cancer cells can occur in relatively any part of the body and is spread by the bloodstream and or lymphatic system. It has existed for basically all of human life and can be dated back to 1600 BC. This project will examine cancer and its actuality, treatment and prevention in Appalachia. It will also correlate treatments today to their origin from the past. They often maintained a spiritual and or herbal approach to the treatment of cancer.  To gain better insight into the present existence and treatment of cancer, it is useful to examine its origin within our native Appalachia.
