A review of literature on studies of and theories associated with the neural correlates of mindfulness. Includes a brief general summary of mindfulness, brief exploration of the employed techniques of neuroscience, and exploration of empirical data on the neural substrates of mindfulness retrieved from academic papers. Specific attention is paid to the state and trait effects seen in the brain that relate to attention and self-perception, two components of the mindful state.
